TGIF Challenge 160 - All About Wood

What an awesome challenge!  What's more classic than creating something with a wood element?  TGIF Challenges this week has the challenge to use wood.  My first thought - Rooted in Nature but then I thought why not challenge myself more and use a set that would not be so obvious to use.  The Challenge:

So I went with my current favorite new set coming out in Stampin' Up's annual catalog being released on June 1, 2018 - The Varied Vases Bundle

I decided not to use any of the amazing flowers that came in the set (really hard decision because they are awesome!) Instead I hand water coloured some roses into the vase so I could play with some of the new amazing colours coming out:

I can't say how excited I am about these new colours coming out, they scream fresh, new and bright.  It's so easy to water colour with Stampin' Up! inks and one of my favorite techniques.  I just 'squish' the lid into the pad to pool some ink in the lid, grab my aqua painter and paint away.

I tend to start with the lightest colours first and then build up my layers to try and create depth.  Also another tip is to dry the wet image prior to adding your next colour to avoid bleeding (unless that is the look you are going for).

Here's some close ups:

Card Recipe:

  1. Crumb Cake cardstock for base (cut at standard size);
  2. Night of Navy cardstock
  3. Water colour paper;
  4. Wood Textures Designer Series paper;
  5. Ribbon Border punch;
  6. Leaf Punch;
  7. Vases Builder punch;
  8. Varied Vases stamp set;
  9. Swirly Frames stamp set;
  10. Hardwood background stamp;
  11. Aqua Painter;
  12. Pearlized Doilies;
  13. Copper Trim;
  14. Stampin' Up Inks used: Crumb Cake, Lovely Lipstick, Poppy Parade, Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Petal Pink, Call Me Clover, Soft Suede
